What Dave and Margie thought was a sinus infection for their 9 year old daughter, turned out to be every parents nightmare! In a matter of one sentence their family was changed. Maari was diagnosed with a rare and VERY aggressive cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. The tumor was pressing on her eye, brain and nasal cavity. Her doctor said it was one of the largest tumors he had seen. Her treatment plan will be as follows: Maari has started a 40 week cycle of chemo and radiation. After this, she'll travel to another state for 5 weeks to complete a session of Proton Therapy. Then she'll come home for some more chemo. She may lose vision in that eye, but the PT should kill that tumor without damaging the other precious cells in that area. They are praying that she will be cancer free by next summer. They are in the process of having a wig made out of Maari's own hair now.
Come on HopeMob! Let's help Maari and her family. This $5,000 will go exclusively to the costs they have that are not being covered by health insurance.
